As many of you know, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a pillar of the Western Muslim Community, was recently diagnosed with cancer. A man who has given his life to the Muslim community, his hospital bills for his treatment currently stand at over $150,000. Despite several fundraising efforts in the US, Imam Siraj still needs $75,000 to cover his treatment expenses.
Fundraising is sometimes difficult, and we as University students struggle to raise a few hundred pounds to support our own Islamic Societies. Imam Siraj is a man who has raised millions of pounds for Muslim communities in the West. He has built masjids, traveled to our campuses, masjids and conferences, and has given his time so we could learn and be inspired by the deen of Allah swt.
FOSIS is asking all Islamic Societies, Masajid and Islamic Centres to designate Friday May 15th 2009 as Imam Siraj Day. Specifically, after the Jummah prayer on campus and at the Masjid, we request all Imams and ISOC Presidents to make a call for donations to help Imam Siraj. A few hundred pounds from hundreds of Islamic Societies and Mosques can make a world of difference. If 100 ISOCs and Mosques raise £500 each, we can InshAllah cover all of Imam Siraj’s remaining costs!
This is an excellent outreach opportunity for the British Muslim community. What a wonderful achievement and sign of solidarity it would be if we as a community were to raise enough funds to pay off Imam Siraj’s medical bills. So far our Sisters and Brothers in the United States have managed to raise $75, 000. Let us compete for good deeds inshAllah and try to beat their laudable achievement.
We request all Mosques, ISOCS and Islamic Centres to partake in Imam Siraj Day and fundraise for the Imam.
Let us work collectively as a community not only to help a Muslim brother in need, but to show our thanks to Imam Siraj for his commitment and effort.
Confirmed participants please email firstname.lastname@example.org and register your decision.
“If there is any one person who can truly be recognized as a national leader for the Muslims of America, it must be none other than Imam Siraj Wahhaj. Imam Siraj has worked tirelessly for the last three and a half decades, speaking at thousands of fund raising events, inspiring hundreds of thousands of Muslims, and engaging with the larger non-Muslim community in productive ways.He has served us for many years; it is his time of need now, so let’s do whatever we can to help him out during his time of crises.” – Shaykh Yasir Qadhi
“Imam Siraj has tirelessly served the Muslim community through his lectures, da`wah, activism, and leadership–and has inspired us and countless thousands of others. He is truly one of the pioneers of Islamic da`wah in the West, and a remarkable man. In this hour of need, it is our responsibility to support him. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said that, “Religion itself is sincere concern (nasiha),” and explained that it is for, “Allah; His Book; His Messenger; and the leaders of the Muslims and their commonality.” He is one of our foremost leaders, and it is from the duty of religion and its essence to support him. Remember the Prophetic promise that, “Verily Allah is in the assistance of His servant as long as His servant is in the assistance of their brethren.” – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
“As-Salaam ‘Alaikum My Brothers and Sisters in the UK. As you know our dear brother and friend, the great caller to Islam and scholar, Imam Siraj Wahhaj is suffering from prostate cancer. His benefit to the Ummah, you have probably been inspired by him, either in person or via his recordings, is too well known to need reiterating. Unfortunately, he has to raise money for his treatment. We are counting on the brothers and sisters in the UK to assist us in this endeavor. Your help is greatly appreciated. May Allah reward and bless you all.” – Imam Zaid Shakir
“Imam Siraj is one in a billion! Imam Siraj is a shining start of this ummah, a light to the people in darkness, a love for the people who are hurt, a stable ship for the ones who are drowning and a caring smile with understanding for the people who are depressed and down in their lives. Imam Siraj has been there like a pillar of strength for this noble ummah, with his time, money and energy. In these days of his trial and tribulation we also need to show our love and respect back to a man who truly deserves it. Definitely give all you can, and you must do that if you are a grateful person. Most of all remember him in your duas that he gets full recovery and once again steers the ship of the Ummah. Imam Siraj has always loved for you goodness and it is your time to show a little appreciation. This man is priceless to us as a whole so give more than what is needed.” – Imam Ziaullah Khan
