Raising the Bar for the Hanafi School in the West: Dr. Mohammad Akram al-Nadawi

Asalamu alaykum,

It is hoped that other schools will produce such texts in the English language. May Allah reward and raise our dear teacher Sh. Akram. For more info click on the image.

Al-Fiqh Al-Islami According to the Hanafi Madhhab
by Shaykh Akram Nadwi

Written by Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi, Al-Fiqh Al-Islami is an original masterly composition of the Fiqh (codified legal rulings) of Imam Abu Hanifah and his school of thought. For the first time in the English language, the detailed rulings of Hanafi Fiqh alongside the evidences from which they have been derived are presented with meticulous research and detailed references. Most importantly, current day issues have also been incorporated to make this book the first authentic, relevant and practical Hanafi work in the English language.

“This book is sound in fiqh and reflects the thorough and accurate knowledge of its author. From my experience in the field of fiqh, I would judge that this book will have tremendous value for its users. May Allàh make this book of benefit to all who turn to it”.

Dr. Hussam Al-Dean Farfour
Vice-President, Al-Fath Islamic Association

“The distinction of this book is that it explains the issues and rulings of the Shari’ ah in an easy style, providing the arguments and evidences for them. It directs the reader to the original sources of the law, which is a fundamental need of our time”.

Maulana Zahid al-Rashidi
Secretary-General Pakistan Shari`at Council

  • Asalamu alaikum,

Subhanallah this looks awesome. We need ALOT more books in english on fiqh…if there is any area that is in thorough need of such translations it would be fiqh. This is awesome mashallah.

    Your Brother,

  • Hanafis in the house say whaaaat!

    just kidding :)

but yeah, this book really tickles my wallet. I’m especially interested in the contemporary issues. can’t wait

  • The book’s already out, actually :) If you click on the image, you can purchase it online.

Anyone know where i can find a good translation on Maliki and Hanbali fiqh like this one?

  • The second volume of this book has finally been published, though readers may have to wait another five years (maybe more, maybe less) before the publication of the third volume. The author has also edited and annotated Usul al-Shashi; however, at the time of writing this can only be found in the Arabic language.

May God handsomely reward the author for this important contribution to the English readership, and bless him with the opportunity to produce other works of this nature.
