Assalaam o alaikum,
Dear Friend, Its a great article in the sense it accumulates a good deal of opinions of renowned scholars about this matter but it lacks proper references. Also the conclusion in the end is quite vague. What it implies is that a person can take up any ruling from Hanafi Mazhab on the basis of Daleel while some other ruling from Shaafa'i Mazhab likewise. But to understand a Daleel of a Mujtahid one requires to master a lot of Uloom, like Usool ul Fiqh etc. And then to compare all the Mujtahideen one needs to know their opinions about the matter and their Dalaails with respect to the matter. To do that one needs to have a comprehensive study of each Mazhab - Usool and Furoo'. If someone knows that much then he becomes a Mujtahid in his own stead, so he doesn't need to follow any mazhab.

So what is asked of a common man in this conclusion is to be a Mujtahid, while he can not be one, unless he strives hard enough to get all the above prerequisites, which is I think too much to ask of a common man.

Hope this enlightens!

AA,

I think this is an important principle that children should be raised with while they are still young. The character of tolerance and open-mindedness when it comes to fiqh differences is not something people should have to "learn the hard way" after community damage has been done. It's a principle that parents, masajid and community leaders should exemplify through action. Real unity is only a slogan until we live our principles.

Jzk for the translation!
