Assalamu alaykum. I absolutely LOVED this article. It addressed a lot of things that I have been going through and that has been on my mind. These days its to hard to find role models around us. Our only hope is to study these women, their lives, but due to lack of oppurtunity its not always possible. I would like to make a request, if its possible, could you write something like this about khadija, aisha, fatima and other prominent muslimahs, so we can get a deeper idea about these wonderful women and emulate them inshaAllah. maAssalam

Jzk. for that reflection.

While I know you’re not in any way suggesting this, your comment allowed me to reflect on something that also can be a mistake for some sisters and brothers as well. Just as immodesty reveals a detachment from Allah (swt) as one’s primary goal, so too does practicing just in order to ‘attract a practicing brother.’ It can be a form of riya’– and also creating a false ‘ilah as pleasing/attracting religious brothers becomes the intention instead of pleasing Allah (swt). Mariam’s spiritual liberation is represented in that throughout her whole life, we see her goal was Allah (swt) and everything else was just a means to Him.

May Allah (swt) always be our goal 🙂

Masha-Allah. What attracts a practicing brother is not an insecure sister who tries to be “sexy”, but a modest, confident sister like Mariam or Khadija (rah).
