Certainly when Othman Mohammed writes this excellent piece on ‘Hope’ and reminds us of beautiful exerpts from the Quranic verses he is carrying on the traditions of Islam so well.As the piece is illustrated by a photograph of flowers blooming it reminds me of the many times in the Surahs where we are reminded of how the rain that Allah(swt)sends upon the parched ground allows the seeds of the green plants to sprout and thus nourishment is spread,One of my Quran translations sometimes added in English. Have ye then no sense to see this sign’ or similar English wordage. If Hope ever dies, then as the writer hints, then what is a believer left with but a non-belief.Whenever I am up against it,which definately is from time to time considering a working life in N.England with its hardships & practises of crime,consumerism,waste,disbelief etc,to oneself it is helpful to repeat the Islamic notion ‘do not despair……’there still remains the rainfall and the green seeds of hope.Thank you to the writer of the above piece.It is so uplifting to see it on the web from my town of Stockport where snow has fallen this week,and temperatures are (perhaps) below that of a desert night.Brian Cokayne
