Asalamu Alaykum, Islamic events have always been used as temporary events to boost people spiritually. They were never meant as a tool to increase Islamic state or knowledge. Anyone who primarily relies on these events will fall into the malaise of the author.

Everyone serious about their spiritual growth should have a person of knowledge in their community who runs a basic weekly program. It should focus on basics and then on spiritual upliftment. Im not talking about a Tafsir or Arabic program.

These spiritual programs exist everywhere, people need to find them and get past the "boring" factor to gain something from them. A real man of Allah can quickly help bring a transformation.

Thank you for writing this. I am a helping professional and interested in pyschotherapy too. I too, went through a similar experience and came to the same realisation. Good to know there are others like myself and am not alone. Alhamdulillah, I attended a course recently that helps me link the Islamic teachings back to my daily life. It triggered a sort of spiritual awakening. May Allah continue to guide us, Ameen.

Salaam alaikum and jazak Allah khair. This was really very helpful...there I was thinking that it was my low emaan that made me feel this way. I also began to refrain from attending such events for the reasons you mention. Problem is, there is a real need in our communities for the kind of programs that addresses the real challenges we face in practising our deen in a western context.
