many of whom i have not met,
many more whose time have spoken
from the edge of a bow that has released
the baton of time,
in the cold clasp of an inmate blind
who carries a balance in one hand.
like my ancestors on whose back were wounds
the size of hibiscus roses
who sang songs of bewildering rain and a land where time stands
i am not here to talk about the depth of their gaze or
the weight of their silence
i am here only as a witness
i am here to speak as time has spoken.
