There is so much of wisdom behind the act of Sujood… Man is the only species among almost 9 million species discovered so far that is given such high level of intelligence. So many amazing things we see around, be it super cars, rockets, skyscrapers… anything… is created using that amazing gift Allah (swt) gave only the human species. When we do the sujood, we place this brain/intelligence on the ground and sumit ourselves, our will to the Almighty, humbling ourselves. Going a little deeper, the negative and evil thoughts a man has is processed at the pre frontal cortex or the front most part of the brain, just behind the forehead… and SubhanAllah, we are placing this part of our head/brain on the ground and humbling ourselves and seeking refuge from evil… please see this report too http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2273857/Neurologist-discovers-dark-patch-inside-brains-killers-rapists.html

Wa iyyaki! Imam Nawawi stated that “increasing in sujood” means sujood in prayer, since sujood is an essential part of prayer. Therefore, pray more; qiyaam, for example, salaat ad-dhuha, the sunnah prayers that accompany the fardh etc.

As to people who ‘randomly’ do sujood, that is called “sajdat shukr” meaning “the prostration of thanks”. It is done when you feel grateful to Allah for something new: you passed your exam, your sick relative is cured of a disease etc. The rules of salaah do not apply, so you do not have to be in a state of wudhu, or face the qibla etc. And Allah knows best.

Jazakallah khayr for this post…. i feel like there’s a lump in my throat. I’ve always had this doubt. When we say, do sujood more often, does it have to be through our salah, and sajdha syukoor? What about these sportsplayers who randomly do sujoodh on the floor? is that allowed? without ablution? Can I just randomly do sujoodh like that? For a girl does she have to be dressed in appropriate clothing for salah????? please answer me!!! May Allah guide you more.

I heard that the reason why we perform sujood twice when salat dated back when Allah SAW ordered the angels to make sujood to Prophet Adam, After rising from the first sujood they notice that Iblis(satan) did not go with them, so they personally went for the second sujood out of gratitude. How true is this…? Jazzakallah Khair!
