Regarding the Tahawiyya, my teacher Shaykh Iqbal Azami had it translated for what he saw as its unifying potential of the type Justin speaks of. However, as with any text that is not wholly Divine, one can have issues with interpretation of the text (such as the meaning of “God’s speech” or the issue of the Fire’s eternality).

Alternatively, one can ‘unite’ around the Tahawiyya and still disagree on the “attributes of God” discussion, which are not fully elaborated upon in the text.

i hope in the UK we can have true love spreading –i have seen people profess to love but then be hating in private…….it’s awful

what is worse is the general lack of adab shown in disagreements between some muslim activists towards other activists when coming from their respective “sufi” / “salafi” background…here’s hoping for the love to really infiltrate the hearts and not just stay on the lips..insha’Allah
