I am currently in my iddah period, my husband has made multiple mistakes that weren’t in accordance to Islam but he has realised it. My husband is not a bad person and we both love and respect each other, it went to such an extent that for the 6 months he kept lying about a bad habit. BUT we both found comfort in one another. My husband made a rash decision and felt as though at the end whilst stressed he was not ready for marriage but as soon we seperated he realised his mistake and kept calling myself, my family to reconcile. I was so hurt that I did not want to speak to him. He has gone away to Umrah for tawbah. I still miss him and make dua for his wellbeing, I truly love him for the sake of Allah. I do want to go back to him
And know there is a long journey ahead. I am in a pickle now as my family are totally against this, (rightly so) they are also hurt and feel betrayed with what they have heard and have sworn to not support me as guardians if I were to reconcile.

I am really stuck and feel broken alhumdulilah. I know regardless of anything Allah wants me to call Him and I feel closer to Allah more than ever but I do need guidance. I KNOW my husband, he has goodness and made foolish mistakes. But I struggle with decisions, I have always doubted myself. If there is one thing I have not doubted is that my husband has a good heart and is also similar to me, we are both in need of sabr and better Imaan.

I accept that we may not end up back together and Subhan’Allah I will take that on the chin as love from Allah. That is the reality of tawakkul. Allah knows better and His plan is better.

But this decision choosing something over something is horrible and im just in a horrible place mentally alhumdulilah. Please can you help?

Thanks for writing these helpful articles, Mariam. My wife is meeting with a divorce attorney, and I'm really struggling. I'll follow your suggestion and speak with a therapist about my feelings. I really hope we can mediate our marriage; it would be very painful for our kids if we split.

It can be a time that changes your mind on a lot of things (and perhaps in Allah's plan, the marriage and divorce was meant to do just that, and no more).

One of such things I personally realised, was that yes, the things one keeps busy with, routines and hobbies, indeed they don't mean anything in the big picture. But that doesn't mean that it is meaningless for the individual to do. I still need to exert a routine, choose things to do, which is from myself, to look after the things within my control even if they are arbitrary or not very meaningful in the big picture, because it is good for me to do so, while at the same time leaving all other things with Allah. Doubtless for some people, their epiphany may be the other way around.

I think I used think in dichotomies, carrying the logic to its strict conclusion. Whereas the middle way balances two modes at once.

Salam arlekoum

How can we read all that without tears , I read and I cried because I know this period of life , you doubt on yourself, you feel alone and suddenly you remember your religion is your weapon , your shield, it is so strong and wonderful to know all what happens in your life is never for nothing. If ALLAH decided you will divorce it means there's a reason even we don't see that. I am a sensitive woman I cry every time I read something about islam worse about ALLAH. MAY ALLAH REWARD YOU AND CARRY ON .
