If my son or daughter tells me they want to be the president – i will tell them, ‘why not, if you study hard, anything can happen.’
It was once inconceivable that a black man would be elected, but it happened. It was once inconceivable that Australia would have a female Prime Minister, but it happened.
People and communities are gradually changing, and I for one actively encourage my children to be a part of that change.

With respect to the brother it was an interesting read, but you have missed a massive point that Borders on negligence. We should teach our children to have Islamic aspirations, being a president is clearly haram as you would have to enact laws and decisions on a daily basis that goes against your own beliefs. I am in the uk, I worry for the American Muslims who have gone so far to please the American people, the true solutions is to give dawa to the people and trust in Allah then the truth will come to them that there is nothing to fear from Islam rather than the community leaders constantly compromising and trying to appease, the politicians and the media will never be happy until you give everything, they can only do this as long as the people believe them,’the dawa is the solution as it was for our beloved prophet, then you will find non-Muslims coming to our aid as they did when the prophet was boycotted.

Great article Br. Imraan. You’ve brought up some great points. Indeed we are facing tough times here in the US, but insha’allah with patience, perseverance and education (of ourselves as well as of those who may be ignorant and unwilling to listen), we can overcome this period in history and turn it in to something positive. Hopefully, this will lead to a more conducive atmosphere for the dreams of those generations that follow us, long after we have passed on.

American society as a whole and politics can be slow to adapt, and sensationalism is a matter of survival to media. It’s also hard to imagine a Jewish president. Or a Mormon one, despite the two current Republican Mormon candidates. Or a Hindu one. Or a female one, of any faith.

you’re bang on with your point about using terms like ‘poltical islam’ and ‘islamist’. whatever they mean. what is even more disheartening is that ‘progressive muslims’ like Tarek Fatah are propogating these terms and spreading the fear monger. signs of increased devountess amongst youth are now being interpreted as signs of radicalization. infuriating.
