Thank you for discussing this beautiful idea about creating better connections among us. I also did not grow up in the ummah. I don’t go to mosques often, and when I do, I am usually ignored. But no-one is ever mean to me there. Allah is always with me and always welcoming. I am happy to be in the same place as other Muslims; the person delivering the khutbah is doing that kindness for me along with everyone else. I am used to being alone with Allah, so I might not think to smile at or speak to my sisters at the mosque; I am not well-trained, so I might be trying someone’s patience. May Allah help us feel comforted in His company, and may Allah help us reach out to our sisters, who surely have their own trials.
