What are your objective(s) for the month of Ramadan?
Suhaib Webb is a contemporary American-Muslim educator, activist, and lecturer. His work bridges classical and contemporary Islamic thought, addressing issues of cultural, social and political relevance to Muslims in the West. After converting to Islam in 1992, Webb left his career in the music industry to pursue his passion in education. He earned a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and received intensive private training in the Islamic Sciences under a renowned Muslim Scholar of Senegalese descent. Webb was hired as the Imam at the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, where he gave khutbas (sermons), taught religious classes, and provided counselling to families and young people; he also served as an Imam and resident scholar in communities across the U.S.
From 2004-2010, Suhaib Webb studied at the world’s preeminent Islamic institution of learning, Al-Azhar University, in the College of Shari`ah. During this time, after several years of studying the Arabic Language and the Islamic legal tradition, he also served as the head of the English Translation Department at Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah.
Outside of his studies at Al-Azhar, Suhaib Webb completed the memorization of the Quran in the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He has been granted numerous traditional teaching licenses (ijazat), adhering to centuries-old Islamic scholarly practice of ensuring the highest standards of scholarship. Webb was named one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in 2010.
1. Leave a sin.
2. Make khatam of Qur’an (reading it from cover to cover) using the method one of the sisters suggested on this blog (4 pages after every salah), inshaAllah.
3. Perfect my salah and try to pray the major sunnah prayers before/after salah.
4. Try to make it to taraweeh every night.
5. Memorize, as much as time permits, with proper tajweed inshaAllah.
6. Lose 10 pounds this month :-). What do you guys think is the best time to workout in Ramadan? I was thinking about it and decided that it’s right before iftaar, so you are really hungry/thirsty and you come home from working out and eat iftaar! Can’t workout after iftaar because of taraweeh, and after taraweeh it’s too late. When are you guys/girls planning on working out this month?
I actually try not to focus on weight loss in Ramadan, it plays with my intentions.
As for working out, workout just before iftaar. You will be weaker but that’s good. It will leave more energy for Taraweeh!
firstly Ramadan Mubarak to all brothers and sisters..inshallah hope to do the khatam of Qur’an at least once, Inshallah build my relationship with Allah (swa) and improve my character. Yes will definitely try and lose a couple of pounds and not gain them which is normally the case! I think best time for a workout would be after iftaar around 45 min after this gives you enough time to read maghrib, eat, digest, rest.
p.s: this will only work inshallah if one breaks the fast with dates and milk…nothing too heavy.
I would still say after iftar and run for taraweeh right after that….

Between a few brothers we came up with some intentions that we have made for this blessed month of Ramadhan, please make dua that Allah gives us tawfiq, istiqama and himma:
– Intend to fast the whole month of ramadan
– Intend to complete the Qur’an twice this Ramadan
– Intend to send salawat on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in excess
– Intend to make istighfar
– Intend not to miss tarawhi prayers
– Intend to be steadfast in tahajjud in this month
– Intend to give sadaqa as much as we can
– Intend to maintain strong ties with our families and friends
– Intend to memorise some parts of the Qur’an (at least one complete surah)
– Intend not to watch TV and browse the net (or minimise latter), no online chatting
– Intend to wake up for sahoor
– Intend not to argue with people
– Intend to to talk less
– Intend to listen more to others
– Intend to eat less (not an obvious one), i.e. in the evenings and sahoor
– Intend to eat less luxurious foods and pre-occupations with thinking about food
– Intend to supply dates and water/milk for someone’s iftaar
– Intend to sleep less
– Intend to pray more.
I would like to take this opportunity to greet you all, to congratulate you on the advent of blessed Ramadan,, I make a sincere dua to Allah alone that He makes this month a means to ease your worries, that he replaces it with goodness and transforms your world into a Jannah in this life. May Allah give you what your heart desires and amaze you with His bounty and grace. Ameen

2 – Complete Quran (ii) Better my recitation
3 – Implement more Sunnah – (iii) or those which I have neglected over the year
4 – Leave some sins
5 – Improve Character
6 – Repentance
7 – Learn how to cook – yes thats right!
Overall objective – Gain Taqwa.

I’ve heard people put weight on during Ramadhan, because we eat (well some of us).. before we sleep during Sehri/Suhoor, and also now that Iftar is later, we will be eating more closer to bed time.
Working out before Iftar? Where will you get the energy from?!? You’ll be drained out by then…

It is related of al-Hasan ibn Abil Hasan al-Basri that he once passed by a group of people who were laughing merrily.
He said: ‘God, Great and Glorious is He, has made the month of Ramadan a racecourse, on which His creatures compete in His worship. Some have come in first and won, while others have lagged behind and lost. It is absolutely amazing to find anybody laughing and playing about on the day when success attends the victors, and failure the wasters. By God, if the veil were lifted off, the doer of good would surely be preoccupied with his good works and the evildoer with his evil deeds.’
To better myself and to strengthen my faith by trying to live by as much of what was taught by the prophet may peace be upon him & also to purify my heart and to continue my strive after Ramadan is over inshaAllah.
1. Complete the reading of the Qur’an, atleast once, reading every evening
2. Avoid all sins
3. Make every Tarawih
4. Tahajjud at every opportunity
5. Memorise the more of the Qur’an (set surah’s, throughout this month)
May Allah make it easy for us to achieve our goals and to please Him, ameen.
Insha’ Allah, I pray to Allah that I can completely stop using foul language and well as limit if not totally eliminate getting angry.
Brother ZK, if I may be bold enough to offer a suggestion, try not to tie any change you make to an act only available in Ramadan. Obviously, once that act ends, due to the end of Ramadan, you my find it difficult to continue the change.

2. Finish the rest of Sura Baqara
3. Finish the forty Hadith 😉
4. Engage in more Ibadah
5. Attend at least 20 days of taraweeh.
6. Last but not least implement eating at least 1/3.
7. Eat healthier.
by the way ZK last Ramadan I lost at least 10 pounds and there wasn’t a need for much exercise. Instead of taking an elavator; take the stairs. Instead of driving to the mosque; walk.
Insha Allah you will be able to meet your goals.

1) To fix my heart.
2) To wake up for Qiyaamu Lail every night.
3) To continually make du’a to die as a muslim
4) To read the entire quran (arabic & translation)
5) To attend all the knowledge gatherings
6) To forgive those who have wronged me and seek the forgiveness of those whom I have wronged
7) To pray each salat as if it is my last prayer
8 ) To increase my quran memorization
1. Not to miss any salah/ pray with khushoo
2. Memorize surat Mulk and Qiyamah, with meaning
3. Pray Qiyam ul Layl every night
4. Make plenty of dua and change some bad habits
Salama alakium: this i my personal plan which is similar to many of the above but more customized.
1. Pray all prayers on time and with sunnah
2. Don’t procrasinate or put off things for later
3. Pray taraweeh as much possible in masjid
4. Make Qiyam a leyil at least once in weekand if can’t on weekdays
5. Make lots of duaa (i have a long duaa list)
6. Read quran and pay attention to how it’s read in taraweeh. Also make sure to reflect on it’s meaning and not get carried away with jst trying to finish befoere ramdan is over.
7. Donate even if it’s loose change everyday
8. Race to do good deeds and look for opportunites
9. Practice mental self-displine by controlling your mind from wandering in prayer
10. Don’t be lazy and sluggish jst because ur fasting doesn’t mean u stop doing everything else (working out, cleaning, ect.)
11. Practice 1/3 rule don’t overstuff on iftaar or else ur gonna feel very lazy and won’t go to taraweeh
12. Sleep early to have more energy and be able to wake up for suhoor
13. Don’t try to kill time with useless and distracting things such as watching t.v. or online, but instead use this time to do worships and remember u could make your daily activites worship if make the intention
14. DONT get angry

16. Finally be on your BEST BEAHVIOR! 🙂
1. Read all five mandatory prayers every day. (I have a problem of waking up for Fajr – we never did it when I was growing up, but I’d like to change that now.)
2. Read at least one to two ruku every day, maybe right before iftar. Read the translation of these verses afterward, and reflect on meaning for my own life.
3. Read taraweeh prayers at least twice a week, maybe on Fridays and Saturdays. (I would like to read taraweeh more than this, but I don’t want to set up more than I can conceivably handle – so, as a goal, I’m making it at least twice a week.)
4. Avoid backbiting and gossiping about others.
5. Avoid negative thoughts and negative words.
6. Exercise daily, at least 30 minutes of cardio.
7. Try not to overeat! (Note: my goal for these last two is not weight loss, per se, but rather the avoidance of weight gain. Ramadan this year comes right in the midst of a regular weight loss program I am pursuing for health reasons, and while I do not know how realistic it is to lose weight this month, I don’t want to backtrack on my success.)
8. Have iftar with others, at least twice a week. (Last year, I was a new student in a new city, and didn’t know anyone, and it was quite depressing. This year, even though I am more busy, inshaAllah, I want to make time for having iftar with others.)
9. Read books on tenets of Islam and Prophet Muhammad’s life for pleasure reading. (I read before bed 10 minutes every day – rather than reading the normal selections of fiction/nonfiction, I wanted to focus every spare moment I have aside from classes and other responsibilities on improving myself body, mind, and soul.)
10. Try to do at least one charitable act every day.
11. Go on an Internet fast (when possible) during the regular fast as well – refrain from using the Internet for non-school-related activities and check my e-mail only one or two times during the day instead of every hour.
12. Try to listen to only anasheed (instead of mainstream music) and avoid TV and radio (with the exception of news).
12. Try to be happy and patient and peaceful as much as possible. Make this the best Ramadan ever.
Ramadhan kareem to all
With the help of Allah i intend to:
1. Finish reading the Quran translation in english
2. Memorise the first ten verses of suratul kahf (protection from dajjal)
3. Learn to be less selfish and consider the feelings of others
4. Respect and honour parents more
5. Learn a new duah
6. Try to perfect ahklaq with Allah, people, and myself
7. Think more about the final destination (meeting with Allah)
… Inshallah not just for ramadhan but till the day i meet Allah

-Continue working on memorization of Juz Amma.
-Learn more about and follow the example of SAWS, the Rightly Guided Companions, and the Righteous Predecessors.
-Be good to all people.
-Make Dhikr abundantly.
-Help someone when they ask, and when they don’t ask.
-Feed the hungry(including sponsoring at least one iftar per week at my MSA iA).
-Go to sleep early so that I can wake up in time for Qiyam and Suhoor.
-Pray Taraweeh in Jama’a at school or at the masjid every day.
-Gain knowledge by going to halaqah circles, take notes, and apply it to my life.
-Start teaching at local Sunday School.
-Maintain good grades in school.
-Learn to save.
-Make lots and lots of du’aa.
-Fix, purify, cleanse my heart, soul, and intentions.
May Allah set all of our hearts firm on the Deen. And I pray to Allah that we all die as sincere, humble Muslims. Ameen.

2007 Ramadan I learned something new. I realized I should set my Ramadan goals one year ahead.
In 2007 as much as I never wanted to miss any taraweeh. I had to skip 3 nights a week since I was taking night classes. So I decided inshallah 2008 no night classes.Alhamdullilah this year I have no excuse not unless something un expected comes up.
2007 I was not able to spend all last 10 days at masgid but Alhamdullilah I planned for 2008 a head of time and informed my boss that I will take my vacation end of September. Inshallah this year I will have my last 10 day un interrupted.( its easy to prepare just remember if this year started September 1st next year will start around august 20th Inshallah).
I promised myself to fast lots of voluntary fasting. So I managed to stick to every Monday. The lesson I learned was: In the past a week or so right before Ramadan I used to kind of panic. “ooh my God Ramadan is starting , no eating all day”. wallahi I used to feel like it’s a tough road to begin. It was only after fasting the first couple of days that I used to get comfortable. But this year was completely different. I was looking forward and I dint panic for even a second I felt like am a pro when it comes to fasting. And its only because I fasted Mondays as much as I could throughout the year.
Inshallah my goal this year is to add Thursday to Monday inshallah.
The best part and the one that am now looking forward too is 2008 ramadan am planning to spend half the month with my parents. My plan is to be the one cooking for them every single iftar and zuhr inshallah. ( we have been separated for a while and its been a long time since I cooked for my parents).

I don’t just plan for Ramadan I try my best to evaluate my life in the past one year and see what areas I need to improve on.
And I remember Shaikh suhaib telling us.if you make a step towards Allahs .Allah swt makes much much bigger step towards you.
Its so true I have only made small small steps everynow and then and I just feel like am getting much better than I anticipated.
To develop a relationship with the Qur’an every night for at least 15 minutes before iftaar, to maintain my workout schedule and maintain my health by eating right (no fried foods iA!), and to change my character and leave a bad habit.
Fill my heart with even more love for Allah
1)To make a more conscience effort to keep the remember of Allah constantly so that it becomes second nature throughout the year.
2) To forgive.
3) To improve on those faults pointed out to me and those that I am aware of.
4) To be kind to my family and others in speech, deeds and intentions.
5) To let go obligations on others and just work on my own responsibilities.
6) To work on avoiding anything related to backbiting.
7) To take all resentment away from my heart.
8 ) To teach my kids the good deeds of Ramadan by partaking with them by example.
9) To be charitable in all its forms.
10) To be regular in the above with myself and my children, Insha Allah
